Radio Warneford Is On The Lookout
Radio Warneford, the award-winning hospital radio service based at Warwick Hospital, is on the lookout for budding new volunteers who have a few hours to spare each week to help put together programmes for patients.
The station broadcasts throughout the hospital via the free Patient Wifi service - even visitors can now tune in on their phones or tablets and hear our shows in most public areas of the hospital. Radio Warneford is on-air 24 hours a day, every day, with live programmes from our broadcasting teams on most weekday evenings and all day on Sundays, complimented by a mix of the best shows from our extensive programme library.
Radio Warneford is primarily putting together a brand new team to broadcast on Wednesday evenings but we have opportunities for enthusiastic volunteers on some of our other evening and weekend teams too so do get in touch. We are also looking for people who have some free time during the day to become part of our Ward Visiting team who take time to chat with patients on the wards and collect requests for our programme later in the day. Those who have been part of our Ward Visiting team in the past have found it to be a rewarding experience.
You don't need to have any particular qualifications to join Radio Warneford. If you like meeting and talking to new people, work effectively as part of a team, like music, have loads of enthusiasm and a keen sense of fun, you are exactly the sort of person we are looking for! You'll need to attend our studios in Warwick on a regular basis - the days and hours depend on the team that you join. Don't worry if you have no experience of broadcasting, we provide a complete training programme. Sorry, we cannot take anyone under the age of 18 but there is absolutely no upper age limit!
Ley Bricknell, Radio Warneford's Station Manager, says "There are so many opportunities for those who become part of Radio Warneford - from chatting with patients to making new friends, from being part of a vibrant team to being able to learn new skills in radio broadcasting and production techniques. We have trainers who will guide you through absolutely everything! Why not come along for a taster evening with one of our teams of volunteers and see what suits you!"
Anyone interested in finding out more about Radio Warneford, or the work that volunteer members do, can visit the Getting Involved section of our website.
