Dementia Awareness Week Singalong Brings
Laughter, Joy And A Few Tears To
The Wards At Warwick Hospital

Members of Radio Warneford, the award-winning hospital broadcasting service based at Warwick Hospital, took to the wards on Saturday afternoon (16 May) to sing songs for patients with dementia.

The initiative took place as part of the national Dementia Awareness Week and was led by Madeleine Curran, a matron and Dementia Lead Nurse at the hospital.

The singalongs took place on Squire, Charlecote and Nicholas Wards at Warwick Hospital. At 2pm, the Radio Warneford team joined in with thousands of other people up and down the country to sing the Beatles classic, and Dementia Friends anthem, With A Little Help From My Friends.

The event proved to be a very emotional experience for everyone involved with patients laughing, clapping and singing along to songs that brought back memories for them.

Ley Bricknell, Radio Warneford's Production Manager, said "Our afternoon of ward-singing for Dementia Awareness Week was one of the best things that Radio Warneford has ever done. It was wonderful and very moving to see patients clapping and singing along with us to songs they remembered. There were a few tears as well!"

Radio Warneford, which now broadcasts programmes for patients 24 hours a day via the free Patient WiFi service, hopes to provide ward singing sessions for patients with dementia on a more regular basis.
